At 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, global media leader and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey inspired approximately 550 graduates when she delivered the commencement address to the Spelman and
morehouse Class of 2012. Winfrey, who received an honorary degree from Spelman College in 1993, also received the institution’s National Community Service Award.

morehouse, bound for his third Olympics this summer in London after winning a silver medal in 2008 at Beijing, is a tireless promoter for a sport he believes can be a big hit in the U.S. For an accomplished athlete in a sport without a huge following or presence in the United States, it should be enough just to make the national team, go to the Olympics and win medals.
