Pharmaceutical disposal collects record amount

A record amount of unused and outdated pharmaceutical products, including prescription drugs such as frequently abused tranquilizers and painkillers, was turned in during an annual collection sponsored by Pennsylvania American Water and the Berks County Solid Waste Authority.

The San Antonio Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Response Team was called out Monday to Leon Creek on San Antonio's Northwest Side to check out eight unmarked metal drums left there. Because the unmarked barrels were left above the recharge zone of the Edwards Aquifer, the San Antonio Water System and the Edwards Aquifer Authority sent employees to investigate.
