@julie_cohen Sounds like pupating. The kits provide a sticky strip (like double sided cellotape) so the thing can hang- as on leaf in wild?

@julie_cohen 10yo says it's pupating. She's just done life cycle of caterpillar in science so stands a chance of being correct!!

@julie_cohen I think that's what they do when pupating. Do you know how long pupation takes. Suppose only wait and see.

@ChristobelGardn It's sewn itself into a leaf and hasn't moved for 24 hours. I don't know if it's dead or pupating.

White grubs overwinter as larvae. In May, they move to the soil surface to do a minimal amount of feeding before pupating. They emerge as adult beetles, typically from mid-May into June to mate and lay eggs. Note the adult is a beetle, not a moth.
