The challenging task of "shaving and paving" nearly six miles of Libertyville streets won't begin until next year, but steps to allow legions of construction crews to get a quick start are well under way. Village officials have awarded contracts totaling more than $657,000 in advance of what will be an intense five years of road work throughout the village.

Motorola Mobility's CEO Sanjay Jha was quickly replaced Tuesday after Google's acquisition of the Libertyville-based company was finalized, renewing concerns about rumors that the new leadership might move the headquarters and its 3,000 employees out of Libertyville. A spokeswoman declined to comment, saying only that the company is "committed to Illinois."
